Ok, let's start with the 12 we have now, and if anyone drops out or fails to make a pick on time, we'll do first-come-first-serve on replacements. Here's the order a random number generator on the internet gave me:

    1. DragonfromTO
    2. Kevin
    3. yanks23242
    4. jimmy_the_ostrich
    5. KingFlash63
    6. asputt
    7. steveringo
    8. TheWrightWay
    9. EnterSandman
    10. axman15
    11. Jacoby7
    12. Pokeysaurus

Remember, it's a snake draft, so Pokey gets picks #12 and 13, Jacoby gets 11 and 14, etc.

If no one protests, we'll settle on using the season most similar to his averages over his best 15-year stretch, which I think is a fair compromise.

And with that, it's Dragon's pick, and we can begin. Should I make a new thread?

So can we get a quick posted outline of all the "rules" here? How many players we're picking, how we're picking the stats to use, how many games we're playing etc. I guess that can start the new thread?

Let's get the rules ironed out here and start a new thread when we're ready to draft. I had originally said 12 player teams, but I don't know if that works with whatifsports.com. yanks23242 presumably knows the site better than I do. How sophisticated of a simulation is it? Does it take into account ballpark factors and competition faced? How does it weigh different eras? Do we have to pick specific stats?

What I'm wondering about is the pitching... when I saw that we were picking only 3 starters I was drooling over starting Petey Martinez 54 times fully rested. I don't use Whatif at all but from my sim league experience I'm guessing we need to pick a full rotation or some of these pitchers are either going to be super valuable (if we turn off fatigue) or incredibly tired and dead armed (if we don't).

I'd make a new thread for the draft if it isn't already made.

Also, would trading be too complicated?

Too late to get in, that's cool. But I remember doing this years ago on the ESPN boards. I think Dragon was there and maybe stanmarsh as well. I know kegtap and HouseofCards also. Former ESPN guys know who I'm talking about.

I'm just an outside observer but I remember after the draft we ranked teams in different categories including best team for one game, best for a 7-game series, best for one season, and best for a 10-year stretch. Maybe if whatifsports doesn't work out, that might be a good way to gauge who had the best draft. Create a different thread for each category and then have all the posters rank the teams 1-12. MVP voting style, we tally up the winner in the end for each category.

You need 18-25 player teams. All those factors are taken into account. For example Yaz's '67 season is considered more valuable than Hack Wilson's '30 season despite the obvious difference in stats.

We need to get all the rules straightened out before we can start. Patience.
